Laurence Stanger is a French visual artist and printmaker based in Bremen, Germany. She graduated from the École des Beaux-Arts de Rennes in 2006, after five years of study focused on painting and photography, including a year studying Communication Design at the University of Manchester in the UK.

Throughout her artistic practice, she has developed a particular interest in light, contrast, and the way forms emerge through the relationship between light and shadow. Her work is also deeply influenced by the natural world — its structures, textures, rhythms and organic forms.

Today, these interests come together through linocut. Wildlife, botanical details and natural structures become the starting point for images that are gradually simplified and translated into carved lines, textures and strong areas of black and white.

Through Designed on Earth, Laurence creates original handprinted linocut editions in her studio in Bremen. Each work develops slowly, from the initial drawing to the carving of the block, inking and final impression. This physical process — and the subtle variations that naturally occur from one impression to another — is an essential part of her work.

Designed on Earth is an invitation to look closer: at the structure of a feather, the veins of a leaf, the silhouette of an animal or the patterns found in nature — and to rediscover them through print.
